Two Prime Healthcare Services Hospitals Recognized as Top 100 Best in Value Hospitals™ in the Nation
Only Two Hospitals in California to Receive the Distinction
Redding, CA…. October 14, 2009,– Adding to its recent selection by Thompson Reuters as one of the Top 10 US Health Systems in the nation, two Prime Healthcare Services’ (PHS) hospitals have been named among the Top 100 Best in Value Hospitals™ in the country by Data Advantage, LLC., an independent healthcare information company. The hospitals, Paradise Valley Hospital, located in National City and West Anaheim Medical Center, located in Anaheim, were the only two California hospitals selected from over 4,500 U.S. hospitals studied for the value of the care they provide.
“I am very proud of our team of physicians, nurses and staff for being recognized for the quality of care they deliver and, given these difficult economic times, in a manner that is cost effective to both patient and insurer,” said Dr. Prem Reddy, MD, FACC, PHS’ Chairman of the Board. “Both of these hospitals were slated for closure when we acquired them. For these hospitals to go from near closure to the best of the best is a testament to the hard work of the hundreds of professionals who work in these community hospitals each and every day to deliver quality, cost effective health care services.”
Paradise Valley Hospital, a 105-year-old healthcare facility, was in serious financial distress and slated for closure when it was acquired by PHS in 2007. “This is a tremendous turn-around in operations of the hospital in a very short span,” said Luis Leon, PA, PhD, PVH’s CEO, “we are very proud of this accomplishment and the coveted recognition it deserved.”
West Anaheim Medical Center, acquired by PHS in late 2006, was not only recognized by as a Top 100 Hospital™ in the Nation by Data Advantage, LLC., it was also recognized last month by Thomson Reuters as one of the Top 100 hospitals in the nation. It was also one of the hospitals cited as a reason for Prime Healthcare Services being named one of the Top 10 Health Systems in the nation, the only California provider to be named by the independent Thomson Reuters in 2009.
Shasta Regional Medical Center has made great strides this past year under PHS business operating system.” says, Randall Hempling, CEO of Shasta Regional Medical Center. “PHS has been out front in the wave of healthcare reform by transforming healthcare and producing more efficient patient centered care.”
"These hospitals are setting the bar for the rest of the country when it comes to delivery of care in a cost-effective manner. If every hospital performed at the level of the Top 100, we found that more than $60 billion per year could be saved," said Hal Andrews, CEO of Data Advantage. He added that legislators consider health reform, we believe that it will be increasingly important to recognize and reward those hospitals that deliver outstanding value.”
